Google: Disabled Discover Clicks Were A Bug In An Experiment

Google has confirmed that disabled source clicks in Google Discover's AI-generated summaries were caused by a bug in an experiment, not a permanent feature change. Rajan Patel, Google's VP of Engineering for Search, stated that the experiment has been turned off and normal functionality restored. The issue temporarily prevented users from accessing linked source articles through AI summaries, raising concerns about publisher traffic and content visibility. A separate experiment has since been observed, although its functionality remains unclear.
