Meta's New Terms Expand Crawling Rights Beyond Advertisers
eta is updating its Commercial Terms, effective October 30, 2026, to expand its rights to crawl websites associated with businesses using its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram business accounts. The terms allow automated tools to collect website content and use it to develop, improve, and train Meta’s products, extending beyond advertisers to other business users. While Meta says the change focuses on gathering accurate product information for recommendations, legal experts have raised concerns about potential AI training on publishers’ content and how robots.txt restrictions will apply.
