US opposes Australia’s proposed social media restrictions | Social Media Today
Australia is considering new social media regulations that would let users opt out of engagement-based algorithms and access more chronological feeds. The proposal also targets potentially addictive platform features, AI chatbots, and harmful content related to areas such as eating disorders, crime and dangerous stunts. The U.S. Embassy in Australia has raised concerns that the legislation could enable censorship and give Australian authorities greater control over U.S.-owned social platforms, while the proposal remains under discussion.
